    I had an 1988 YZ 490, bad ass bike, fast as Hell, until your wound out in 6 seconds! they should have made them with 6 or 7 gears, 4 raps out way to fast! need a trench dug? grab the 490 and dump the clutch, you can plant your garden very easily because you'll have a 4" deep trench with just the twist of the throttle! great for Hill climbing too! I couldn't keep a back fender on mine, everyone that rode it flipped it over backwards when they twisted the throttle! not for the novice rider!

    Dude, those aren't Phillips, head screws.They're JIS screws Japanese industrial standard.It looks like a Phillips, but it's not.That's why they are always stripped out.Because people use a phillips screwdriver on them instead of a J.I.S. screwdriver

      As far as I know, no one is producing one anything that resembles the 85 cover anymore. You will have to update to a 90+ cover. With the removable clutch cover . You can get knock off Chinese built covers on ebay for $50. The quality is very good. Or you can buy a new oem one. But if you do that make sure you are buying from a reputable dealer or you could just be over paying for a Chinese cover. The outer cover you can find lots of aftermarket options or used on ebay. You will also need to change the hose to your cylinder. Look up hvac 19764. This hose can be trimmed up on both ends for a good fit. Also the Chinese cover may need to have the hole for the kick starter shaft opened up slightly. I just wrapped a piece of Emory cloth around a socket that would fit in the hole and hooked it up to my cordless drill. Gave it a few spins and then checked the fit. Did this a half dozen times and got a better fit than my worn oem cover. Hope this helps

    I'd polish that head, not powder coat it, it'll help with cooling a bit. Got a '75 Elsinore CR 500 in right now for resto. Thank goodness it's been garage kept it's whole existence so it's easy peasy. Propane torch brings color out quicker than heat gun before buffing plastics.thay thing looks amazing now, great job.

    • @TNTMOTO
      @TNTMOTO Месяц назад

      The cylinder and head were not powder coated. They were vapor blasted and then sprayed in a ultra thin clear aluminum cerekote to protect the aluminum surface. This will prevent the bare aluminum from ever oxidizing or discoloring

    Really nice video, thank you! I've seen the heating method used a lot, but some people say that the plastic might become brittle over time. Anything you've noticed with your restorations? I have some large ATV fenders in really bad and scratched condition. I just ordered sand paper ranging from 220 up to 3000 for my orbital sander and I have some rougher paper as well. I was thinking of removing the deep scratches with 120 or 240 and work my way up, maybe ending with some wet sanding around 1200-2000 grit is the finest I have. Heat it up once or twice as well as and use the wool pad. Have you used any protection when done? I have some left over Cerakote Plastic Trim Restorer which I used to restore some faded black plastics on my car. I was thinking I could try that to keep it looking good for longer.
